Pileated Patients: MARS Wildlife Rescue
Переглядів 2553 роки тому
MARS received and cared for two injured Pileated Woodpeckers in June, 2020. They are beautiful birds with fascinating adaptations. Pileated Woodpeckers are a keystone species, meaning other wildlife depend on them. The nest holes they make and use only one year become nest and roosting spaces other woodpeckers, owls and other birds, squirrels, and racoons. One hole can be reused over decades. I...

Who's hanging out in our wetland? Wetlands are essential habitat for wildlife, offering food, water, protection, and a home. Canada contains 25% of the world's wetlands, though as many as 70% of them have been impacted by agricultural, industrial, and residential development. Marshes, bogs, as well as vernal ponds like ours (which partially dry in the summer and flood in the fall, winter, and s...

June 26th Eagle Release
Переглядів 2 тис.7 років тому
This eagle appeared to be at deaths door when admitted to MARS. She was flat out, eyes squinty, unable to stand. Suffering from something she must have ingested, we did not not expect her to survive. The resilience of these birds is amazing and after four days of tube feeding she was standing up! Whole foods were started and before long she was flying in the flight pen. It is always heartwarmin...
Help Us Build A Wildlife Hospital

Please help us by making a donation at wingtips.org/ MARS helps ill, injured, orphaned and oiled wildlife recover, then releases them back to into the wild. Our patient load has skyrocketed from just over 400 birds and mammals per year to over 700 in 2014 and nearly 800 this past year. Despite best efforts to improvise, we have drastically outgrown our present location, and there is no room to ...
April 14th Eagle Release
Переглядів 7138 років тому
On March 16th two bald eagles were in a territorial battle when they struck some power lines. Both birds fell to the ground. After a little while one bird recovered enough to fly away but the other could not. He was captured and brought back to MARS where he was found to have a wound on the left wing. We were concerned it was an electrical injury, which would likely worsen over the next few day...
Menzie's Release
Переглядів 6748 років тому
Soaking wet, thin and too weak to fly. This sub-adult bald eagle was rescued from a log sorting yard at Menzie's Bay, back on February 6 2016. He also suffered from a pronounced limp. Thankfully, x-rays showed no broken bones. After five weeks at MARS the limp was gone, he had gained a significant amount of weight and was flying strong. Menzie was set free on March 14th 2016.
Feb 16th Eagle Release

On December 19 2015 this sub-adult bald eagle was found on the side of a road. She had likely been hit by a car and x-rays showed a broken right wing. Fortunately, surgery was not needed and a wing wrap was all that was necessary to secure the bone as it mended. After the bone had healed, she spent weeks in the flight pen and flew very well. She was set free on February 16 2016.
Feb 7th Beaver Release
Переглядів 6008 років тому
This beaver was found on a beach, appearing very sick. The iconic Canadian symbol had ended up in the ocean and ingested a lot of sea-water. Being unable to excrete so much salt made him very ill. Without rescue he would have likely died. He was given lots of fluids by sub-Q and orally. After a few days he perked up and began eating. A favourite snack was yams! We put him in an outside pen with...

Im in the UK. We just rescued a baby barn swallow who fell from the nest in September with all his siblings who died on the ground. The flock left to migrate without him. He's doing really well with us and I'm learning as much as I can about how to care for him.

I love the way that sounds 😊🦇
What a magnificent owl. How beautiful. Just being able to see one is a pleasure.
So fuzzy
The fact that the babies sound just like the adults is hilarious. 😂
Except higher pitched too.
Very obvious that birds are a descendants of the dinos
A few years ago my wife and I took care of a Barn Owl until it was able to catch a feeder mouse on its own. Here's the link to our Barn Owl being fed. It's being fed cut pieces of warmed up chicken breast. It wasn't screaming because it had become accustomed to the feeding process. ua-cam.com/video/MFaHC17SASo/v-deo.html
Sooooooooooo cuuuuuuuute! 💙💙💙💙💙
Thank you for helping.
That screech its like million scalpels in my brain
Мальчик?
This brings tears to my eyes, I love those little babies. I am also happy for the wonderful people who rescue those little beings when they need help.
Kinda sad to see them fly away. Like kids venturing out into the world on their own.
Mallard ducklings are much smaller than Canada geese goslings.
Lol poor baby its always hungry and a talker ❤❤
wonder when they were feeding the owlet, some of them remembered, 'yeah, I was noisy too wanting to be fed or waking up my parents in the middle of the night...'
gosh that's sounds like a demon
Aww so cute
Never heard a trumpeter swan hiss before
We have two adorable baby barn owls in care The barn owl in the video: *”screaming intensifies”*
Oh I thought all babies were so cute and tell this little guy telling us how hungry he is all my heavens I'm deaf even though I still would like to hug and kiss him after he eats
Barn Owns are the cutest owl breed but the their blood curtling scream would make anyone deft.
